In an investor's call, publisher EA announced that Star Wars Battlefront 2 would be released in 2017. The sequel wasn't included in EA's 2017 fiscal calendar, which ends at the end of March 2017, so its believed that Battlefront 2 will be released sometime between April and December 2017.
EA Chief Financial Officer Blake Jorgensen says EA will "most likely have one Star Wars title a year for the next three to four years." Currently, the only announced Star Wars game for 2016 is a Battlefront Experience for PlayStation VR, while the developers EA DICE are working on three expansions for Battlefront proper.
Following Star Wars Battlefront 2, in 2018 we can expect the as yet untitled Star Wars game from Dead Space and Battlefield Hardline developers Visceral Games. Amy Henning is heading up this project, which Naughty Dog fans will recognize as the lead on the Uncharted series until her leaving Naughty Dog in 2014. Last week Respawn Entertainment, the devs behind Titalfall, announced that they were also working on a third person action/adventure Star Wars game for EA.
As much as Star Wars fans love Star Wars, this sounds a bit like overload. While annual intervals for new games are nothing new to the industry (looking at you, Call of Duty), it is possible that this may be too much. Assassin's Creed proved that there is such a thing as too much of a good thing as people have been burned out on the series. Lets hope EA doesn't oversaturate the market on Star Wars games, which may sound ludicrous on paper but the market will tell you is entirely too possible.
