While the heads3t itself is still a ways off, Sony has seen fit to include a demo disc in the box. No, not the VR Worlds game in the works at Sony Interactive Entertainment, this will be a disc with some simple snippets of games coming to VR.
What games will be included on said haven't been announced yet, but PlayStation Senior Researcher Richard Marks recently spoke about the decision to include a demo disc at GamesBeat 2016, via Venture Beat. He said the demos are to give a newcomer a fresh taste of what to expect from VR.
The reason [a demo disc] is so important in VR is… you can’t have a game for two straight hours that’s completely amazing every bit of it. So if somebody comes over and you want to show them a demonstration of it, you want that ultimate five minutes of awesomeness that you can give somebody. So the demo disc is like these five minute nuggets from each one of the games that encapsulates that.
I agree that it isn't always easy to show off the best part of a game you're playing to a friend or family member. Often times, showing off a game can lead to awkward situations or even spoilers, so a demo disc may be just the ticket to getting another person to grab a PSVR for themselves. And besides all that, demo discs are great for people who are saving up before they can buy a new game and they help sway the decision on which game to buy. Demos are awesome and need to make a comeback.
PlayStation VR hits October 13 worldwide. I can't wait to get my hands on one, how about any of you? Sound off in the comments!
