Sony is finally upgrading account security on PlayStation Network by adding two factor authentication, a feature which forces users to submit two different forms of verification before being granted access to their account. The process will take a tad bit longer but will increase security, which is far better in the long run.
The feature was originally discovered by a twitter user who was looking through the latest PlayStation 3 firmware and noted that it mentioned two factor authentication. Until now this had not been mention by anyone from Sony.
Polygon was the first to report. A Sony representative spoke to polygon, saying "In order to further safeguard our users and their accounts, we are preparing to offer a 2-step verification feature." The rep did not give any kind of time frame, stating only that "more details will be shared at a later date."
