Get a taste of Overwatch for free next weekend
Blizzard Entertainment's first new IP in over a decade has been a rousing success. To celebrate, and possibly get some new fans hooked, Blizzard is giving everyone on both PlayStation Network and Xbox Live a chance to play the game free of charge.
Next weekend, that is Sept 9-12, Overwatch will be available for download for free, starting from 11 a.m. PT on Sept 9 through 4 p.m. PT on Sept 12.
This is the full package, all 22 heroes and 13 maps, as well as Quick Play, Custom Games, and the latest Weekly Brawl. Players can also level up, earn Loot Boxes, customize heroes and do pretty much everything paid players can do. Nothing is being cut, which is admirable on Blizzard's part. This will be a great chance for player who were curious but hadn't taken the plunge to get their feet wet.
It should be noted that while PlayStation Plus will not be necessary to play the Free Weekend on PS4 , Xbox Live Gold will be required. Players will need PlayStation Plus if they decide to purchase the full game, however. Trophies and Achievements will also not be earnable during this free period. All other stats, including level, loot boxes, and hero gallery completion will carry over to the full game.
