Somehow, Nintendo Switch units are already selling out.
It's funny how little self control some people have. Or perhaps I'm reading this situation incorrectly. Either way, regardless of the all-around internet hard criticism of the Nintendo Switch, Nintendo themselves should feel pretty proud right about now, as their new console is already selling at pretty much every major retailer that sells video games.
Some fans can't seem to wait for March 3, as pre-orders at retail giant Amazon has already run out of their stock both in both US and UK. Best Buy and Wal-Mart are faring no better.
Even specialty retailer GameStop has run through their "initial stock", whatever that may have been.
“We’re working closely with Nintendo to get additional Nintendo Switch units, and will let our customers know when they become available,” GameStop executive Bob Puzon said.
In speaking to Wired, Nintendo of America head Reggie Fils-Aime assured that there should be plenty of Switches for everyone (that's not a disturbing sentence).
“What we’ve said publicly is that there will be 2 million units that will be shipped worldwide for the launch, essentially through month one. Two million for essentially the first month is a huge number, especially when you look and see that this is not peak seasonality. This is essentially the first three weeks of March. Our focus is making sure that the consumer who wants to buy a Nintendo Switch can buy a Nintendo Switch. That’s how we build our supply chain, that’s how we think through the amount of product that’s available.”
2 million units worldwide and initial stocks are already selling out? Tell 'em how you really feel, Internet. Well, Nintendo. You promised there wouldn't be shortages at launch. Mayhap this is your first sign that it may be time to ramp up production.
