Tekken 7 release date finally announced
Tekken 7 finally has an official console release date: June 2! Its a bit more of a wait than the placeholder "early 2017" date, but to be honest, I'm just glad we finally have a date! Word comes from an official announcement from Bandai Namco. Project Leader Katsuhiro Harada told GameSpot in an interview that the Tekken team is learning from other games, both in-house and out, that a bad launch can be incredibly detrimental for a game's success.
"We were trying our best to get the game out at that time, to get it into the hands of users as early as possible."We saw some titles--some from our own company and some from others--which didn't have a very good launch because of a lack of content, or whatever it was, that caused players to bash the product." Harada and team wanted to avoid a similar fate, deciding to continue forward with its original content plan, "even if that meant the game would come a little later."
It may be later than they wanted, but Tekken 7 is primed to have a good launch. June 2 couldn't come fast enough for some of us! If you're curious about what may have taken the Tekken team so long, there's a great feature over on GameSpot about how the arcade version of the game helped change the console version. Its worth a read!
