Crash Bandicoot N.Sane Trilogy may not be PlayStation exclusive after all
If you're like me, you are endlessly hyped for Crash Bandicoot to make his fully remastered debut on PlayStation 4 in June. If you're like me, you may also be surprised to hear that the remaster of the first three Crash Bandicoot games may not be PlayStation exclusive, as we may have expected.
In a tweet from PlayStation Ireland, which was quickly deleted, but not before it could escape the capture of NeoGaf, was nearly confirmed that Crash would be making his current-gen debut on PlayStation 4 and only PlayStation 4. In a subsequent tweet, however, that notion has been ... somewhat altered?
In an attempt to provide "clarity" PlayStation Ireland responded to their initial tweet, saying that Crash N.Sane Trilogy "will be coming to PlayStation 4 and PS4 Pro first." The "first" in that statement could suggest that this may well be a timed exclusive.
This may sound like great news to those without a PlayStation 4, but to many it comes as a bit of a shock. While it will be great to allow non-PlayStation owners a chance to play a great trilogy of games, Crash Bandicoot has nearly always been associated with PlayStation, even if his later games weren't PlayStation exclusives.
Crash Bandicoot began as a PlayStation exclusive way back on the first PlayStation, developed by Naughty Dog. The N.Sane Trilogy remasters Crash bandicoot, Crash Bandicoot 2: Cortex Strikes Back, and Crash Bandicoot Warped. Widely lauded as the best games in the series, these games were only released on the original PS1, before publishing rights were moved around a bit, from Vivendi, to Sierra, to finally Activision, and the series became multi-platform.
With the N.Sane Trilogy focusing on the first three games, it seemed obvious that it would be a PS4 exclusive. Now, it seems that may not be the case. For now, it's unclear as to whether or not Crash will see a release on other platforms, but when you remember that Activision still holds publishing rights and this is in fact a Sony-Activision partnership that's making this trilogy happen, it doesn't seem too terribly far-fetched.
For now, we know Crash Bandicoot N.Sane Trilogy will be releasing for PS4 on June 30. Whether that's where it stays is up in the air, but for now let's focus on the positive: We're getting Crash on PS4! Still hyped!
