Sony is very serious about how they handle the almighty Banhammer, as one user found out recently. As was first reported on SegmentNext, the good people at Sony do not like bring used as a threat.
After a particularly well-played game of Fortnite Battle Royale, two players got into a bit of a heated discussion. User Hamad Jalalie was contacted by another player after Fortnite who accused Jalalie of hacking. A sniper rifle shot at 260m? I could understand how one might think that was hacking.
It was when the accuser threatened to report Jalalie to Epic Games that Jalalie made the fateful mistake. He responded with "bahahahahaha my dad works at Sony he will get u banned.” Sony didn't take too kindly to this and sent the user this message:
"We are writing to inform you that your account has been permanently banned. We have made this decision based on your online activity in the message.
Pretending to be, or by association able to influence, an employee of Sony, its affiliates or 3rd party partners is against our code of conduct. You will no longer be able to access online multiplayer, PlayStation Store and other network features. Your account will not be reinvested at any point. We take the decision to ban an account very seriously, and we only do so after one of our moderators has carefully analyzed the situation. PlayStation Support, therefore, can not overturn this moderation decision.
Yours sincerely,
SIEE Moderation
Sony Interactive Entertainment"
Some will certainly think the permanent ban is a step too far, but it's also a bit of poetic justice that the user threatening to get another banned gets banned himself. What do you all think? Did Sony take it to far?
