During Sony's latest earnings report (which I will not give details about), Sony announced that the sales of PlayStation 4 consoles exceeded 3 million during the quarter ending July 31. With this, the lifetime sales of PlayStation 4 has now passed 82 million, allowing the PlayStation 4 to surpass the PlayStation 3 in lifetime sales.
Despite that rather impressive figure, the 3.2 million units sold during the last quarter actually show a slight decline in PS4 sales as compared to last year's sales in the same time frame. Sony is expecting PS4 will sell 17 million units throughout the rest of the fiscal year.
While Sony expects console sales to drop off sometime soon, software sales continue to surprise, with the recent God of War selling far more than expected. Keep pumping out great games, and consoles will keep selling, it seems. God of War also managed to become the fastest-selling exclusive game ever.
