PlayStation 4 System Firmware facing a massive overhaul
Sony announced on the PlayStation blog today that the PlayStation 4 system software will be getting an update.
Software 4.00 will introduce a bevy of new changes, some immediately apparent, some more in the background waiting to be found. I'll hit some of the points that interest me most, starting with folders!
Yes, I said folders! The things we use to keep files and other important (or unimportant) things organized in computer systems are coming to the PlayStation 4! For those of us with large libraries, this should help keep things organized, making its much easier to find a game or app that we're looking for.
There are also some changes to the library. Specifically, the library will have a new "Purchased" tab, which will differentiate between games and apps you own versus the ones currently installed. This will be a great aid in filtering out demos and betas that are no longer running.
The Quick Menu has also gotten a facelift. For starters, it's shrunk. Now, when players press and hold the PS button on their Dualshock 4, instead of the entire screen changing, the new Quick Menu will only take up a portion of the screen, and will show things like online friends, messages, favorite groups, Party, and more. Best of all, the Quick Menu will be completely customizable, with players able to add or remove their favorite features.
There are a lot more features and changes coming in firmware 4.00. For the full read up, head over to the PlayStation Blog.
