New PlayStation Focused Showcase Debuts Monday
On the PlayStation Blog earlier this week, Sony’s Sid Shuman announced that PlayStation will be starting a new Nintendo Direct-adjacent video program they’re calling State of Play. The inaugural State of Play will get air live on Monday, March 25 at 2pm PST/ 5pm EST. This new showcase will center around, you guessed it, PlayStation content for PlayStation 4 and PSVR.
Glad to finally be able to talk about this! Today, we’re introducing a new video program called State of Play, and the first episode kicks off Monday, March 25 at 2:00pm Pacific Time.
State of Play will give you updates and announcements from the world of PlayStation. Our first episode will showcase upcoming PS4 and PS VR software, including new trailers, new game announcements and new gameplay footage.
You can watch live on Twitch, YouTube, Twitter or Facebook worldwide, and we’ll be offering up the VOD edition shortly after the episode airs.
And this is just the beginning! State of Play will return throughout the year with more updates and announcements.
See you Monday!
This all sounds very similar to what Nintendo has been doing with their Direct videos. It wouldn’t be too much of a stretch to say this likely came about after Sony announced they would not be holding a PSX 2018, then pulling out of E3. The reasoning for both were along the lines of not having enough content to show that would justify putting on these events. Similarly, announcing that this won’t be a one-off, but something ongoing throughout the year will certainly make a splash. I can’t wait to see what they have planned.
