Apex Legends Rolls Out Black Lives Matter Badge to all Players in New Season

As a Black owned and operated website, Trey Omega and Omega Spider Webs stand in solidarity with the Black communities around the world. With that said, here’s the story today:

The newest season of the popular Battle Royale shooter Apex Legends dropped this week and with it came a little surprise: a Black Lives Matter badge freely available to all players. While Respawn calls out that this badge arrives in celebration of Black History Month, the tweet that revealed this also mentions standing in solidarity with the Black communities.

This has, of course, invited some players to scream into the void that is the internet about “not making games political.” It seems some Apex Legends players are getting all twisted up about the dreaded “politics” invading their precious video game escape. Clearly these players do not think too hard about the settings of the games they play, because Apex Legends already has some pretty strong politics in its lore-building.

But like, it’s a game. Those badges are like player achievements, about the game. Why should life issues start popping up as badges in a video game that has nothing to do with it? I wanna look at someone’s player card and see how cool they are, not a reminder of the real world

It feels good to have more allies publicly show their support for the BLM movement. Incidentally, I will most certainly have the BLM badge as my top badge and if it bothers anybody, that says a WHOLE lot more about them than it does about me.
