Twitter, PlayStation Network, and other services under digital fire

Early this morning, Twitter, PlayStation Network, and Dyn, a Web hosting service, were hit with distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks, though thus far nobody has said by whom.

The story, as far as I can find, comes initially from Gizmodo, though its effects have been felt all over, in all corners of the internet, all day long. The first wave of DDoS attacks hit the both the East and West coasts of the United States, shutting down services such as Spotify, Twitter, PlayStation Network, Netflix, and Reddit, to name a few.

Updates have been coming in from every site reporting on this, the latest being from Gizmodo, who believes this may be just the beginning. Dyn says that they've been hit with yet another wave of DDoS attacks, the third today.

Speaking to CNBC, Dyn stated that this was “well planned and executed, coming from tens of millions IP addresses at same time.”

The US Department of Homeland Security is investigating into the issue, but thus far nothing has come of it just yet. I'll keep my ear to the ground on this and post updates as soon as I can.
