No Man's Sky Only 6GB

Hello Games' Founder and Front man Sean Murray, revealed earlier today that the studios' massive galaxy exploration simulator will only take up 6GB of space on Blu-ray.

What?!

This is incredible. No Man's Sky was officially announced way back at the Spike VGX 2013, was later shown off at E3 a couple of years and has been under watch the whole time. The biggest selling point the team has had going for the game is it's massive universe, which boasts more than 18,000,000,000,000 (if I remember that number correctly, that's 18 trillion+) planets. This game has been expected to be the largest game of all time.

Not according to director Sean Murray. The team over at Hello Games has been in a kind of euphoria, and deservedly so as the game officially went gold last Thursday, just in time for some Pokemon GO. Murray has since been responding to fans' questions and comments on Twitter and revealed that the game will only take up 6GB of Blu-ray space.

Now, while this number may seem impossibly small at first, remember just how big No Man's Sky is and how the team has always said it's all about procedurally generated content. If anything, this is even greater testament to how brilliantly designed this game, and the brilliance of the team behind it. Plan and simple, there's just far too much in No Man's Sky for any team to hand-craft it all personally, regardless of how much time, energy, and hard hours go into it.

Murray also said that much of that 6GB is actually audio, which makes sense as it would be much harder to procedurally generate sounds than it is to generate environments, creatures, and other visual wonders.

There's a lot of hype surrounding No Man's Sky, as it has been building for some time. Not quite Last Guardian levels of hype-building, but still some lofty expectations to reach. I sure hope No Man's Sky can get there. I've got full confidence in the team at Hello Games.

Expect to finally see No Man's Sky August 9 on PlayStation 4 and PC. That's less than a month away, people!
