Up until Recently, Japanese developer and publisher Square Enix had been working in cooperation with third party developer CyberConnect2, best known for the .hack games, and more recently, the Naruto: Ultimate Ninja series. That cooperation is coming to an end, as it sees Square wants more control of development.
Square Enix developer Naoki Hamaguchi addressed the topic, saying:
"I've taken over development side of Final Fantasy 7 Remake. Up until now, development has progresses by receiving external collaboration, but from here on out, with production and quality in mind, we're shifting to our in-house organisation. This company decision was made wanting to control quality as well as keeping the schedule stable."
This is interesting because, if you recall, Square Enix also recently said they were expecting this game (among others) to be released sometime in the next three years. When they were looking for new help, we knew this game would be a ways out, but Hamaguchi stating the reason for this shift being "control quality" and "keeping the schedule stable," I ca't help but think, could this be the result of a stiffer time frame for release? Could they really be aiming for 2020?
I guess we'll just have to wait and see. I wasn't expecting much from this game at E3, but after this, some clarity would be nice. Speculation machine, GO!
