PlayStation Vita Physical Cards Ending Production in North America and Europe
Sad news as Sony hammers home yet another nail in the small coffin of the PlayStation Vita. Sony will no longer be producing PlayStation Vita GameCards physically. This means that while PSVita games may still be bought digitally, there will be no more Vita games available on store shelves.
Sad as this is, even I, a devoted PSVita gamer, can't say this is shocking. Painful, perhaps, but not shocking. The PSVita launched in North America in 2012 but found little success in the rising tide of tablets and smartphones, and conceded even more ground to the Nintendo 3DS for a long time.
Still, even after PlayStation largely gave up support for the fledgling handheld around 2014/2015, it found its niche in Japanese Role-playing, visual novels, indie, and other niche, small market games. Unfortunately for the Vita, the Nintendo Switch appears to be filling that space (for the time being) and has come along to eat the poor Vita's lunch.
The PlayStation Vita still isn't quite dead yet, as Stardew Valley was recently announced to be coming to Vita on May 22. Keep fighting, little Vita!
