Red Dead Redemption 2 Online mode coming in November

Red Dead Redemption 2 Online mode coming in November

Rockstar Games, the infamous developers behind Grand Theft Auto and now Red Dead Redemption, have revealed some details about Red Dead Redemption 2’s online mode, simply named Red Dead Online.

First off, the online service won’t actually be available until a month after the main game’s October launch. A beta will happen sometime in November for all players who own a copy of RDR2; no word on whether the multiplayer offerings will be available separately, though at this point, I wouldn’t hold my breath.

The official announcement over at Rockstar Games Newswire (the Rockstar blog) states the following,

Red Dead Online is an evolution of the classic multiplayer experience in the original Red Dead Redemption, blending narrative with competitive and cooperative gameplay in fun new ways. Using the gameplay of the upcoming Red Dead Redemption 2 as a foundation, Red Dead Online will be ready to be explored alone or with friends, and will also feature constant updates and adjustments to grow and evolve this experience for all players.

It goes on to say that the beta will start November 2018, and they are fully aware that there will “inevitably be some turbulence at launch.” I’m glad they’re taking the opportunity to get way ahead of it.

In an interview over at IGN, with Imran Sarwar, Director of Design at Rockstar North, and Josh Needleman, Senior Producer at Rockstar San Diego, who go much more in depth about Red Dead Online and how it will be updated over time.

Red Dead Redemption 2 will release on October 26 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
