SEGA Starts a Sneaky Countdown Page

SEGA Starts a Sneaky Countdown Page

April Fool's has come and gone, and there were plenty of interesting (and uninteresting) April Fol's jokes from developers, all of which you can find here from Polygon, from GameSpot, and you know Kotaku has one too. That should cover all the bases on video game April Fools' jokes so I'm not touching any of that.

Well...maybe I'll touch just one.

SEGA made an 8-Bit version of Bayonetta available on Steam, which isn't actually a joke. This one is free to download for all Steam-ites. The mechanics are simple: jump, shoot, get a high score. You can watch the trailer below.

Thing is, that's not really all there is too it. Hidden within the game's Steam achievements is a URL, which leads to a teaser site with a countdown timer. The timer looks to end on April 11th, but more interestingly, there's a faint visage in the darkened background of a high heel. Bayonetta's heel.

Who knows what this could be leading up to, anything right now would be speculation and haven't we all had enough of that? Of course not! Speculate away, just don't expect me to join you, I'll be awaiting official word on April 11, 12 pm, ET. Let's see what SEGA and PlatinumGames have up their collective sleeves.
