Onimusha is an old franchise from the PlayStation 2 days that found quite a large following. Unfortunately for many fans, the series has been dormant since 2006. Now those fans have a little more hope in their hearts today.
Surprising everyone, Capcom announced that Onimusha: Warlords, the first game on the series, will be released in HD on all current generation consoles, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch, and on PC through Steam on January 15, 2019. This looks more like an HD port than any kind of remake, more akin to Shadow of the Colossus on PS3 VS Okami HD. The trailer below shows some cutscenes and gameplay, so see for yourself.
More than the sleek new look, Warlords will also receive a new wide screen option, and will allow players the option to switch between widescreen and classic display on the fly. The re-release will also add analog stick support and an instantly unlocked Easy Mode. Some fans may find it unfortunate that the new game will have a new soundtrack after Capcom found the original composer was using a ghostwriter.
Onimusha: Warlords HD is set for release on January 15, 2019 and will cost $20. The physical edition is already available for pre-order in the US with digital pre-orders going live soon, while players in Europe will only be able to get the game digitally.
